Barbara Weiss, 81, the founding editor of Government Finance Review, died May 2, 2012, at her home in Vienna, Virginia, after having a stroke.

Weiss was with the Government Finance Officers Association for nearly 20 years. In addition to melding an association publication, Resources in Review, into a new GFOA membership magazine called Government Finance Review, she worked on numerous projects, including directing the Advanced Government Finance Institute each summer.

According to GFOA Executive Director Jeff Esser, Government Finance Review remains the single most important activity of the organization because it serves GFOA's fundamental mission of serving as a clearinghouse of information and sharing it with members and other state and local officials.
