Congratulations to Judge DeAndrea Gist Benjamin on her investiture to the United States 4th Circuit Court of Appeals!

Judge Benjamin's swearing-in ceremony took place on November 1. A native of Columbia, Benjamin has served as an assistant attorney general, worked in private practice and was appointed to the South Carolina Circuit Court bench for the fifth district in 2011. Prosecutors Receive Awards for Excellence from the U.S. Attorney for the District of South Carolina

United States Attorney for the District of South Carolina, Adair F. Boroughs, recognized four South Carolina prosecutors for their distinguished achievements during the opening night of the 2023 South Carolina Solicitors' Annual Conference, held from October 8 to 11 in Myrtle Beach. U.S. Attorney Boroughs presented awards in four categories: the 2023 General Sessions Ernest F. Hollings Award

for Excellence in State Prosecution to Eleventh Circuit Deputy Solicitor Rhonda W. Patterson; the 2023 South Carolina Attorney General's ' Office Ernest F. Hollings Award for Excellence in State Prosecution to Senior Assistant Attorney General Tracy Meyers; the 2023 Family

I Court Ernest F. Hollings Award for Excellence in State Prosecution to Eleventh Circuit Assistant Solicitor Stephen Hill; and the 2023 John R. Justice Community Leadership Award to Fifth Circuit Assistant Solicitor Ivy Justice, the late prosecutor John R. Justice's daughter.

Nominations In for Bar Leadership

The Nominating committee, chaired by Immediate Past President Hagood Tighe of Columbia, met in October to slate nominees for Bar leadership positions. Nominations are: Christopher R. Koon of Columbia, President-elect; Nekki Shutt of Columbia, Treasurer; Lindsay Joyner of Charleston, Secretary; Scott Moise of Charleston, HOD Chair; Teckla Henderson of Columbia, Board of Governors Region 2; Paige Ornduff of Charleston, Board of Governors Region 4; Julianne Farnsworth of Charleston, ABA

State Bar Delegate; Mary Sharpe of Beaufort, ABA State Bar Delegate. Any eligible Bar member may file a petition to run against a nominee by following the procedure in Section 9.3 (b) of the Bar constitution.
