The Colorado Lawyer Recognizes Outgoing Board Members

On May 9, The Colorado Lawyer Board held its biannual meeting. After critiquing applications for three open positions, outgoing board members David W. Becker, Jr., Darla L. Daniel, and the Honorable Ed L. Felter, Jr., the 2015–16 chair, were recognized for their dedicated service to the board. Marcy G. Glenn will serve as chair for the coming year.

2016 Barristers Benefit Ball—The Superheroes of MVL

More than 500 superheroes and supervillains took over EXDO Event Center on Saturday, April 30, for a memorable evening of dining, fundraising, and dancing. The Denver Bar Association thanks everyone who braved the wintry weather to attend this year’s Barristers Benefit Ball, which raised more than $51,000 to support Metro Volunteer Lawyers’ commitment to providing free and low-cost legal services for civil matters to those in need.

DEBA Presents Law Day Scholarships

The Douglas-Elbert County Bar Association recently awarded its Law Day Scholarships. First-place winner Alec Greven of Castle View High School received a $5,000 scholarship. Second-place winners Karis Holm, Jack Kane, and Samuel Warfield were each awarded $2,000 scholarships. Students were judged on academic performance, community service, a personal essay, and financial need.

Colorado Trial Lawyers Care Assists Seniors Displaced by Apartment Fire

Colorado Trial Lawyers Care, the charitable arm of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association, provided financial support to six residents of the Southview Place Towers, an apartment community for seniors in Littleton. The residents’ leases were terminated with little notice after a fire destroyed a number of units in the building.

The fundraising effort was led by John Sadwith, president of Colorado Trial Lawyers Care. “This is simply about helping,” Sadwith explained. “The loss, the fears, and the obstacles that go with starting over in this type of situation are enormous. We want them to know others care about them.”
