BANKS HAVE THE ABILITY TO RESPOND TO USER REVIEWS ON MYBANKTRACKER.COM, which is a free Web portal that lets consumer find the best banks, interest rates, peer reviews and more.

Banks can sign on as verified bank representatives. This gives the bank the ability to respond to user reviews as a new effort to provide customers with insights necessary for making smarter banking decisions. These visible, two-way conversations will give bank representatives a forum to track customer comments and connect with real customers on a granular level, the company says.

One of the institutions that has signed on to the service is PerkStreet Financial, Boston, which is a start-up. The company offers checking accounts with rewards debit cards. But instead of holding the customer's money internally, the company deposits it with Bancorp Bank (assets $2.3 billion), in Wilmington, Del.

Transparency and engagement are pillars of the PerkStreet ethos, according to Jason Henrichs, chief operating officer. "This often manifests itself in open dialogues with customers, typically online. The new functionality offered by MyBank-Tracker.com plays a critical role in these conversations by creating an unbiased forum where institutions like ours can engage customers in full view."
