There has been a significant decline in the number of bankruptcies filed by individuals (non-businesses) within the state of Alaska. The total number of bankruptcies filed throughout the state of Alaska declined from 173 in October 2002 to just 150 in October 2003. This represents an almost 14 percent decline in the number of bankruptcies filed by individuals in Alaska. Anchorage also experienced a decline in the number of bankruptcies filed by individuals. In October 2002, 120 individuals filed for bankruptcies compared to just 111 individuals in October 2003, representing an almost 8 percent decline in bankruptcies filed. Similarly, Fairbanks saw a decline in the number of bankruptcies filed by individuals. The number of bankruptcies decreased from 28 in October 2002 to 22 bankruptcies in October 2003. This is an almost 22 percent decline in the number of bankruptcies filed by individuals in Fairbanks.
