Bankruptcies filed in Alaska have increased dramatically. In the period of one year, the total number of bankruptcies filed in Alaska increased by almost 52 percent. In December 2004, the total number of bankruptcies filed was 161, compared to 106 bankruptcies in December 2003. In the period of one month, November 2004 to December 2004, the number of bankruptcies increased from 114 to 161, more than a 41 percent increase.
