Bank of America donates to Women's Business Center.

Bank of America has donated $100,000 to CommunityWorks and the Greenville nonprofit's Women's Business Center.

The donation, part of an ongoing local investment initiative, was made to help advance "racial equity and economic opportunity in the Upstate," according to a recent news release.

"Bank of America has a clear purpose to help make financial lives better," Stacy Brandon, Upstate market president of Bank of America, said in the release. "Investing in programs like the CommunityWorks Women's Business Center improves access to jobs and support for women-owned small businesses by creating more pathways to employment and support for entrepreneurs in the Upstate."

CommunityWork's lending team has aided almost 200 small businesses in acquiring more than $2.6 million in Paycheck Protection Program loans and through other services, the release said. Since inception, the group has generated more than $269 million in local economic impact through $4.6 million loaned to startups and small businesses and $7 million distributed in affordable housing and community loans.

"Bank of America has been a long-time partner of CommunityWorks," Tammie Hoy Hawkins, CEO of CommunityWorks, said in the release. "This contribution signifies their ongoing support to promote equitable access to capital and financial stability for underserved and underrepresented small businesses."
