Thank you for "The Price Is Right but Money Tight" (Regional Report, May), regarding land preservation in North Carolina. Unfortunately, the article contains an error, leading readers to believe that there is a large amount of public money available for conservation. The article correctly states that the N.C. Clean Water Management Trust Fund lost money last year as the state worked to balance the budget but incorrectly says the fund has been restored and now has a large available budget. In fact, $115.5 million was taken from the CWMTF--and that money has not been restored. The article confuses fund balance with available funding. All funds have been obligated by the CWMFT board of trustees to existing projects. In addition, the CWMTF has approved projects totaling $40 million...
