Founded by Bruce "Bruno" McGowan and Bruce Edgerly in 1994, Backcountry Access first got its "foot in the door" with its Alpine Trekkers, adaptor plates that allow skiers to hit the backcountry without a telemark rig. The company's "biggest break" came a few years later when it debuted the market's first digital avalanche transceiver, the Tracker DTS. "It's now the world's best-selling avalanche beacon," said Edgerly, citing a 70 percent share of the U.S. market.
