Last month, we were honored to play a small part in recognizing and celebrating the wonderful charitable work that franchisors, franchisees, employees, and suppliers do in thousands of communities in the U.S. and around the world every day. During the second annual Franchising Gives Back Awards Dinner, which was the kick-off the Franchise Action Network Annual Meeting, we honored a handful of such businesses, with five Gold Award Winners and 11 Silver Award Winners.

Since the launch of Franchising Gives Back one year ago, more than 200 IFA members have created profiles about their charitable and community support activities. In total, more than 225,000 volunteers have donated millions of volunteer hours, and more than $120 million to support charities in their local communities. And these members represent only a fraction of the thousands of franchise businesses that give back to their communities every day, to help those most in need.

The purpose of Franchising Gives Back is not only to recognize these businesses, but to encourage others to "give back." The economic footprint of franchising is very big, providing millions of jobs and billions of dollars to the U.S. GDP. but our social footprint, in our communities, touching the lives of our customers and neighbors in very personal ways is even bigger.

So I encourage all IFA members to visit the Franchising Gives Back website (franchisinggivesback.org), and create a profile for your company, and tell us about your charitable activities. If you don't have one, please contact our staff who can help you get started.

The foundation's contributions total almost $1 million annually, and have benefited dozens of programs around the world, including hospitals, schools, homeless shelters, food pantries, and...
