ABA HAS FINE-TUNED ITS COMMUNITY BANK AWARD PROGRAM in order to better recognize the community commitment of banks of all sizes.

The reconfigured program, which has been renamed the ABA Community Commitment Awards, will go into effect in 2012. The previous program was known as the ABA Community Bank Award. Some of the differences between the two award programs are as follows:

* Award categories. The number has been reduced from seven to five: affordable housing; economic development; financial education; volunteerism and philanthropy; and small-business lending. Banks of comparable asset size will be judged against their peers.

* Entry judging. Entries will be judged by judges from outside of ABA. The previous awards program had ABA staff judges.

* Awards presentation. Awards will be presented at the ABA Annual Convention, which this year will be held Oct. 14-17 in San Diego. Previously, the awards were presented at the ABA National...
