The Alaska Vocational Technical Center in Seward opened its new $2.6 million Connected Education Center. The new facility provides technology which officials hope will boost student enrollment via online and videoconference classes.

"AVTEC is a leader in using communication technology to reach Alaskans, no matter where they live, to provide job training or technical training," said school director Fred Esposito.

The 4,878-square-foot center has three classrooms, a video broadcast studio, a video production and editing room and four offices. Construction funds came from a $2 million U.S. Department of Commerce grant and $323,000 from the State of Alaska. State agencies...
