Aviation authority Daniel Elwell joins Alaska Air Group board.

Alaska Air Group announced the appointment of Daniel Elwell to its board as well as to the boards of directors of its subsidiaries Alaska Airlines Inc. and Horizon Air Industries Inc.

Elwell served as deputy and acting administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration from 2017 to the end of 2020. During that time, he had oversight of the FAA's multibillion-dollar NextGen air traffic control modernization program to accelerate the shift from ground-based radar to state-of-the-art satellite technology. Prior to his appointment at the FAA, he was senior advisor on aviation to the former U.S. Secretary of Transportation. He also previously served at the FAA as assistant administrator for policy, planning and environment.
