to support creative individuals who wish to pursue
innovative research at the nexus of substance use
disorders and HIV/AIDS.
Deadline: Letters of Intent are due 30 days prior to the
application due date. Proposals are due Aug. 13, 2021,
and Aug. 15, 2022.
Funds: The number of awards depends on
appropriations and the submission of a sufficient
number of quality applications. The maximum project
period is four years.
Eligibility: Colleges and universities; for-prot
organizations, including small businesses; nonprot
organizations; and state, local, special district and Native
American tribal governments; among others.
Areas: NIDA said the program will support research
approaches, both basic and clinical, focused
on improving therapies for HIV, preventing HIV
transmission, reducing the impact of comorbid
conditions and, ultimately, eradicating HIV. Examples
of studies of relevance to drug abuse include:
studies using populations with signicant numbers
of people who use drugs or samples from drug-
using populations; studies using in vitro systems
and/or animal models that test the effects of
addictive substances on HIV pathogenesis, disease
progression or treatment; and studies to develop
