The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority hopes to follow in the footsteps of transit agencies in Chicago, San Diego, and Miami by leasing nine miles of track and seven MARTA stations. If the DeKalb County Commission and the Atlanta City Council approve the plan, MARTA expects to lease its south line to an investor for about $600 million over 32 years. MARTA would use $30 million of that amount to upgrade the transit system, putting the rest of the money into a trust fund.
