Like most professions, accounting has smaller associations that cater to minorities. Two prominent ones are the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) and the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA).

NABA (www.nabainc.org), founded in 1969 and headquartered in Greenbelt, Md., has chapters in most states -- and several chapters in many. The group claims to represent the "largest pool of African-Americans in accounting and finance in the nation" and has established a number of programs to "nurture the relationship between the business community and the association at large." Just over half of the members are from corporations, with the public accounting and government accounting for most of the rest.
