Association Recognizes Space Achievements.

The National Defense Industrial Association has awarded Lt. Gen. Stephen Whiting, commander of Space Operations Command, the Gen. James V. Hartinger Award for his long-term contributions to the U.S. military space mission.

Whiting was instrumental in planning, standing up and leading the U.S. Space Force, Space Operations Command, Joint Force Space Component Command and several Space Force subordinate commands. He currently serves as the first ever commander for SpaceCom, where he leads the preparation, generation and sustainment of combat-ready intelligence, cyber, space and combat support forces.

Prior to serving as commander, Whiting was the deputy commander of the Space Force and responsible for running the staff's daily activities.
