It's not what you think. We are talking about education. You may have seen the buttons if you were at the last Legal Marketing Association conference. Education is one of the cornerstones of the association and one of our greatest member benefits.

The LMA Education Committee divided the vast programs it has on file into various levels of experience so that members could target which programs might best suit them. There are four levels: Essential for marketers with zero to five years of experience; Mezzo for marketers with five to seven years of experience; Advanced for marketers with up to 12 years of experience; and Master for those who have 12 or more years of experience in the field.

LMA maintains conference recordings from 2009 to the current year. Replays of 2009 and 2010 are free; 2011 and 2012 can be purchased individually by members for $39 and $59 for nonmembers. For $120, members can receive full access to the entire conference offering for one year; nonmembers pay $220.

We also have 60 webinars available on all Core Competency areas and ethics. The cost is $79 for members and $99 for nonmembers.

Several years ago, the education committee established the 10 Core Competencies for Law Firm Marketers. The 10 are now available online through the complete QuickStart Online Course, or they can be taken individually. After completing all of the modules and passing an assessment test, members receive a certificate. The Core Competencies include: branding; business development; business of law; career development; communications; event management; public relations; research; strategic planning; and technology. There is a bonus module for those who successfully complete all 10 called "Everything You Need to Know about Lawyers but Are Afraid to Ask."
