Fed up with slick "Generation X" marketing, Jason Pramas and Charles Provenzano founded As We Are, "a progressive magazine for working young people (not a privileged elite)" that focuses on real people and activists--not Wall Street or Hollywood. The first issue features an essay by Pramas about why the media are so eager to concoct a war between the generations. Pramas's thesis is that business and government are trying to cut Social Security by fostering resentment of the elderly among young adults. After the piece came out, the Gray Panthers named Pramas the youngest member of their national board.
