Arthur Lorenz needed to shed some pounds, so his wife bet him he couldn't finish the New York City marathon in five hours. He accepted and started training, injuring his knee and delaying his running start for a year. He completed that marathon and has continued running--having completed seven marathons. Now, his wife runs with him and with both of them in better shape, they're planning to run the Philadelphia marathon later this year.
