The September issue of National Defense had a number of articles which made me wonder exactly what happened to our "Arsenal of Democracy."

As a World War II veteran and experienced designer and provider of defense equipment I really want to know if our modern day developers really know what the combat environment is like. I will admit that our WWII equipment was not the best, but we had a lot of it.

For example, the Army designs a brand new armor kit for the Humvee. Why? The Humvee is not a fighting vehicle and the efforts to make it so is sheer nonsense. The troops need a vehicle where the talents of our trained troops can...
