A former National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) employee will serve 15 months in prison for his part in a scheme to steal nearly $1 million from the Archives, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Maryland.

James Clay Whitson, who had been a property management specialist for a College Park Archives facility, robbed his employer repeatedly between 2002 and 2006 by using his government purchase card to pay an accomplice for services that were never rendered and paying inflated prices. The accomplice had a contract to provide facility management services. Authorities said the two split the proceeds.
