2 "Courage of the Military"

Pat Gamble is president and CEO of the Alaska Railroad. Gamble served as the top U.S. Air Force commander in the Pacific Region and retired as a four-star general. 9 "Courage in Race Relations"

Thelma Buchholdt was elected to the Alaska State House of Representatives in 1974, making her the first Filipino woman elected to the state legislative body in the U.S. and the first Filipino of either gender to serve in a U.S. mainland state legislature. She is also the author of "Filipinos in Alaska: 1788-1958." Friday, noon to 1 p.m., Wilda Martson Theatre, Z.J. Loussac Public Library. Free and open to the public.

16 "Courage in Life Changes"

Rachel Simon is the author of "Riding the Bus with My Sister," the story of the year she spent riding the buses ALL DAY with her sister, Beth, a developmentally disabled woman. After this great leap of change, Simon left "most of her jobs behind, found her way back to her sister, and rediscovered her friendships." The courage of making change.
