FILING REQUIREMENTS
Documents
All text must be double-spaced.
Use 1-inch margins on all sides.
File a docketing statement for every case appealed or cross appealed. A docket-
ing statement form can be found on the court’s website.
• The judgment appealed from and any supporting documentation must be
included in an addendum. Any jury instructions that are the subject of the appeal
must be included in an addendum.
Briefs
Backings are required for briefs and appendices only.
Use 14-point Times New Roman or 12-point Courier font.
Do not use a sans serif font such as Arial.
Principal briefs are limited to 30 pages, 13,000 words of 1,300 lines. See § 450
for a brief page limitation guide.
Headings and footnotes count toward the length count. Tables of Content or
Authorities do not count.
A principal brief that exceeds 30 pages and a reply brief that exceeds 15 pages
must include a certificate of compliance certifying that the brief complies with
the typeface and length limitations of FRAP 32(a)(7). The certificate must con-
tain the exact word or line count.
Text must be double-spaced except for quotations more than 2 lines, which may
be single-spaced.
You must have permission from the court to file an amicus brief.
The entire brief must be one PDF file, including addendum.
The e-brief must contain an electronic signature or /s/ first name last name.
Hard copies of the brief must be sent to the court as directed by ECF notice, usu-
ally seven days after filing.

Appellant’s brief must contain an addendum.
An e-brief must be electronically filed using attorney’s login and password. The
login name must match the signor’s name.
All briefs and pleadings must contain a certificate of service or they will not be
accepted for filing.
All principle briefs must contain a corporate disclosure statement at the beginning
of the brief (if applicable).
Footnotes: Footnotes must be the same sized text as the body of the brief.
Amicus Curiae Brief: An Amici must have the court’s permission to file a brief
unless all parties consent to the filing. The brief can be no larger than one half the
size of the supported party’s brief..
Appendix: There is no size limitation for an appendix.
Addendum: The appellant’s brief must include an addendum containing: (1) The
judgment, ruling, or order appealed from and any supporting opinion or statement
of reason; (2) Jury instructions if subject of the appeal; (3) Pertinent portions of
any document in the record if subject of the appeal; (4) Any other items from the
record necessary for understanding the issues on appeal. The addendum is limited
to 25 pages (excluding the judgment or statutes) and must be bound at the end of
appellant’s brief and include a table of contents. The appellee’s addendum may
include any documents omitted by appellant’s addendum.
