In her own words, Emily Dickinson (1830-86) was "small, like the wren; and my hair is bold, like the chestnut burr." But what did that celebrated--yet reclusive--poet from Amherst, Massachusetts, actually look like? Until recently, we've had only one authenticated portrait of Dickinson as an adult (inset). But now the Amherst College Library thinks it may have another one on its hands (right).
