In her own words, Emily Dickinson (1830-86) was "small, like the wren; and my hair is bold, like the chestnut burr." But what did that celebrated--yet reclusive--poet from Amherst, Massachusetts, actually look like? Until recently, we've had only one authenticated portrait of Dickinson as an adult (inset).
