Another Changing of the Guard: Thank You, and Welcome Aboard! 5
The transition from 2020 to 2021 is welcome
in many ways. I, for one, am increasingly
optimistic that we will finally be able to bid
farewell to the negative experiences that followed the
advent of COVID-19 and welcome a return to some
semblance of normalcy in this new year. In other
ways, this transition is bittersweet. The turning of
this particular leaf marks the end of my team’s initial
editorial term and the beginning of our second. We
are all too often victims of context, adapting to the
world as it presents itself anew each day. Certainly,
three years ago, we never envisioned editing the
journal during a pandemic, nor did we anticipate the
challenges and opportunities it would pose. We each
face unique individual challenges as well, many of
which are unavoidable. With this issue, we announce
a number of changes to the composition of our
editorial team. Armed with the wisdom of experience,
and facing unprecedented increases in workload, we
continue to restructure the PAR organization to make
it more productive; more efficient; and characterized
by fairness to all of our stakeholders, both authors and
reviewers.
I owe a debt of gratitude to Paul Battaglio, who has
served with me as coeditor in chief over the past three
years. Together, we charted a course for PAR that would
maintain its momentum and maximize its impact as the
discipline’s leading journal. It is in the spirit of gratitude
that I announce Paul is stepping away from the editor’s
post to concentrate on other personal and professional
priorities. We will not lose the benefit of his experience
and insight, however, as he will stay on the team in the
post of Associate Editor.
To fill this gap at the center of our organization, we
are adding capacity with the expansion from three
editors to six. This will allow PAR to better reflect
and showcase the rich diversity to be found across
our discipline. Existing editors Lotte Bøgh Andersen,
Nicola Bellé, and Sanjay Pandey will be joined by
Dominic Bearfield (Rutgers University—Newark),
P. Edward French (Mississippi State University), and
Staci M. Zavattaro (University of Central Florida).
We also welcome Cullen Merritt (Indiana University)
to our roster of Associate Editors.
The true workhorses of our enterprise are the
managing editors, who are responsible for much of
the day-to-day work of the journal. David Kanaan
has served admirably in this role alongside Paola
Cantarelli over the past three years. Like Paul, David
has decided to reprioritize personal and professional
matters, leading to his decision to resign later this
year. In the interim, he has agreed to stay on board to
facilitate the transition for his replacements.
With manuscript submissions up more than 50%
over 2017 levels, it seemed prudent to build in greater
capacity here as well. We are pleased to announce
Bert George (Ghent University) and Yuan “Daniel”
Cheng (University of Minnesota) as new managing
editors who will work alongside Paola in facilitating
day-to-day management and processing of
manuscripts.
As with each new volume year, we must now graciously
relieve a cohort of editorial board members who have
fulfilled their three-year commitment to PAR. This
group is special as they joined us on our first day on the
job and provided valuable service as expert reviewers
on many manuscripts. Those completing their term of
service to PAR’s editorial board are:
Teodoro J. Benavides
Ann O’M. Bowman
Enrique Cabrero Mendoza
Bianor Cavalcanti
Dan Chenok
Nani Coloretti
Diane M. Disney
Sean Gailmard
Ting Gong
