Each year, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation ranks North Carolina counties based on quality of life, taking into consideration factors such as overall health, physical health, mental health and birth weight. Counties in the northeast and Sandhills tended to score more poorly in the rankings, while the Charlotte, Triangle and coastal regions trended higher.
