Western Political Science
Association (WPSA)
Change of Venue for 2017 WPSA Annual
Meeting
There has been a change in location for the 2017 annual
meeting of the WPSA. The Association was informed in
March that the Fairmont Empress Hotel in Victoria will
be going through a major renovation during the sched-
uled meeting time, making it impossible to hold the
meeting there. As a consequence, the meeting will be
held at the Hyatt Regency in Vancouver, British
Columbia. Although the Association’s leadership was
disappointed to learn of the renovations at the Empress,
the Hyatt Regency is an excellent conference hotel, and
Vancouver is a beautiful, modern city nestled between
the Pacific Ocean and the Coastal Mountains. It will be a
great place to celebrate the Association’s seventieth
anniversary.
WPSA President Julie Novkov and Program Chair
Stephen Nicholson are planning the 2017 Annual Meeting,
which is scheduled for April 13 to 15, 2017. The theme for
the meeting is “The Politics of Identity, Intergroup Bias,
and Conflict and Cooperation.” Information regarding the
program and additional WPSA news is found on our web-
site http://wpsanet.org. Please note that the deadline for
submission of participation forms is September 18, 2016.
The forms will be available in early June for submission.
Please check now to make sure your passport is up to date.
The WPSA annual meeting not only offers the oppor-
tunity for traditional research presentations and roundta-
ble discussions but also a place for interested groups to
schedule special events and workshops. In addition, if
you are part of a research community that is interested in
holding a meeting next spring, we may be able to accom-
modate your group by coordinating a conference within
the WPSA annual meeting. For information about these
opportunities, please contact Richard Clucas, executive
director, at hprc@pdx.edu.
We look forward to seeing you in Vancouver next
April!
Call for Editors of Political Research
Quarterly (PRQ)
WPSA President Julie Novkov appointed a search com-
mittee over the summer for a new editor or team of editors
for the PRQ. The term of the current editors—Clarissa
Hayward, Jeanette Mendez, and Jim Scott—will expire on
June 30, 2018. The association is seeking nominations of
qualified individuals who would edit the journal from July
1, 2018, through June 30, 2022. This four-year term is
renewable for a two-year optional extension. Nominations
and self nominations are both welcome. The WPSA
encourages nominations of women and members of ethnic
minorities. By mid-September, the formal call for editors
will be posted on the WPSA website. Check the website
for more details about the position and the application
process.
WPSA Endowments Need Your Support
In response to requests from members, the WPSA
Executive Council approved the creation of its first
endowments in fall 2014. If these endowments are to get
off the ground, they need your financial support.
One of these endowments is for an award honoring
Betty Moulds, who served for 25 years at the chief admin-
istrator for the WPSA. The Betty Moulds Lifetime
Service Award will be given to individuals who have
made a long history of service and an extraordinary con-
tribution to the WPSA. The second endowment is to
honor Joel Olson, an associate professor of political the-
ory at Northern Arizona University and a longtime WPSA
member who passed away unexpectedly in March 2012.
The Joel Olson Award will be given to activist-scholars
whose work is at the creative intersection of radical polit-
ical theory and practice. The awards honoring Betty
Moulds and Joel Olson will be funded entirely by their
endowments, so your support is essential for them to be
launched. The Executive Council also created the WPSA
Endowment Fund, which will be used to help protect the
long-term financial security of the Association and to
provide funding for special projects.
Please consider making a donation to any of these
endowments. The WPSA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit
organization; as such, your contributions are fully tax-
deductible, as permitted by law. To make a donation,
please visit the WPSA website at http://wpsa.research.

New Officers and Council Members

ness meeting held in March, 2016, in San Diego,
