The Anchorage Police Department put in place a new crime suppression initiative to address violent crime and drug activity in Anchorage. The plan is composed of three components:

1. The VICE team moved from the Detective Division to the Crime Suppression Division. This move places CAP and VICE under one chain of command for drug investigations. Simplifying this structure means the units will work more closely together and increase efficiency.

2. An APD detective assigned as liaison with the Alaska Information Analysis Center moved to the Crime Suppression Division as a dedicated Task Force Officer. The detective is housed with the APD crime analysis unit to add a layer of intelligence to data exploration.
