Eligibility: Entities that operate elementary, secondary,
or postsecondary schools primarily for Native American
children (including Alaska Native children), such as
Native American Indian tribes, tribally sanctioned
educational authorities, schools operated or funded
by the Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Indian
Education, or a consortium of these schools.
Areas: ED said invitational priorities include: Promoting
Literacy, such as projects providing families with access
to books or other physical or digital materials or content
about how to support their child’s reading development,
or providing family literacy activities; and Remote
Learning, where at least part of the learning occurs
away from the physical school building in a manner that
addresses a learner’s educational needs.

State Personnel Development Grants Program
(ED)
Scope: The Education Department’s Office of
Special Education and Rehabilitative Services seeks
applications for the State Personnel Development
Grants (SPDG) Program.
Deadline: March 9, 2021.
Funds: $9.2 million for up to 10 awards.
Eligibility: A State Educational Agency (SEA) of
one of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, or the
Commonwealth of Puerto Rico or an outlying area
(United States Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa,
and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana
Islands).
Areas: ED said Absolute Priority 1 includes effective
and efficient delivery of professional development
by improving systems for personnel preparation and
professional development of individuals providing
early intervention, educational, and transition services
to improve results for children with disabilities; and
Absolute Priority 2 involves identifying and addressing
the state and local needs for the personnel preparation
and professional development of personnel, as well as
individuals who provide direct supplementary aids and
services to children with disabilities.

American Indian Vocational Rehabilitation

Scope: The Education Department’s Office of
Special Education and Rehabilitative Services seeks
applications for the American Indian Vocational
Rehabilitation Services (AIVRS) announcement to
provide VR services, including culturally appropriate
services, to American Indians with disabilities who
reside on or near federal or state reservations.
Deadline: April 22, 2021.
Funds: Approximately $27 million for up to 51 awards.
Eligibility: Native American tribal governments and
organizations.
Areas: ED said VR services must be consistent with
such eligible individuals’ strengths, resources, priorities,
concerns, abilities, capabilities, interests, and informed
choice, so that such individuals may prepare for, and
engage in, high-quality employment that will increase
opportunities for economic self-sufficiency. Priority is
given for continuity of services.
