Student Ambassadors advance Ohio CPA Foundation's mission: the Student Ambassador Program, a flagship initiative of The Ohio CPA Foundation since 2001. uses the power of peer-to-peer influence to help undecided students see the benefits and opportunities of obtaining an accounting degree and pursuing the CPA license.

PositionInvolvement

The Ohio CPA Foundation employs Student Ambassadors at 12 Ohio universities. These students are not only Ambassadors of The Ohio CPA Foundation and their universities, they also represent the CPA profession. Each year, Student Ambassadors reach thousands of students on their campuses to spread the "good news" about accounting and what it means to be a CPA.

The Ohio CPA Foundation, the 501(c)(3) arm of The Ohio Society of CPAs, exists to promote accounting education, interest students in pursuing an accounting degree, and encourage individuals to pursue the CPA license. Now, more than ever, meeting these objectives is critical as OSCPA works to strengthen and expand the CPA profession with a new era of CPAs.

AMBASSADORS IN ACTION

Funded by The Ohio CPA Foundation and member contributions, Student Ambassadors have accomplished great things this school year. Here are just a few examples of how they are advancing The Ohio CPA Foundation's mission.

ACCOUNTING CAREER DAYS

Last fall, the Student Ambassadors worked with OSCPA to present High School Accounting Career Day events on their campuses. The events, which reached more than 300 high school students, were hosted at Kent State University, The Ohio State University and The University of Toledo. The Student Ambassadors registered high school students, participated in panel discussions, presented their views on majoring in accounting, and networked with the students.

"Not only did the high school students get to learn about accounting in general, but they also gained further insight into the profession from personal stories told by college students and young CPAs," said Renee Pearce, Student Ambassador at Kent State University. "Reaching out to students about accounting helps make career information a little less confusing and helps promote a career path some students may not initially think to pursue," Pearce added.

With the help of the Student Ambassadors, the Accounting Career Day events will continue in the spring and fall at even more campuses around Ohio.

ACCOUNTING BANQUETS

The accounting banquet at Xavier University celebrates students who earned high grades in the introductory accounting series. The banquet program started four years ago when Xavier joined the Student Ambassador Program. It brings undergraduate students together to celebrate their accomplishments and encourage them to pursue their talent in accounting by declaring accounting as their major.
