Alyeska Resort begins $8 million upgrade for hotel, ski facilities.

Alyeska Resort has started an $8 million renovation project, which will update hotel rooms, meeting space, a mountaintop restaurant and skiing facilities. Upgrades to the 304-room Hotel Alyeska in Girdwood will total about $3.5 million and include new carpeting, mattresses, lighting, artwork, high-speed Internet access and CD and MP3 clock radios.

Other renovations are scheduled for completion by the start of the 2007-2008 ski and snowboard season. New carpet and furniture will be added to banquet and meeting space, while a new retail shop, cafe and ski arcade will be added on the hotel's second floor.
