"We're like Cheers," says owner Harry Davidson, referring to the sitcom about a local drinking establishment where everybody is on a first-name basis. "Some people come in here every day to see what's new. Sometimes we have people waiting outside our door when we open."

Davidson and partner Alice Bicklein take pride in offering a personal touch that is missing in so many chain stores. "It means a lot to our customers when we know their names. When they call us, they get to talk to a human being - that's important to a small-business owner who has a problem that needs fixing right away."

That's not all that separates Alaska Used Computer Source from the pack. Davidson says since he opened his shop 10 years ago, he has established a network of vendors up and down the West Coast.

It's those same connections that make Alaska Used Computer Source attractive to local computer owners. "We have both new and used equipment," explains Davidson. "We can provide whatever a customer needs from an upgrade to a new system. At least half our sales are for new equipment." The store also boasts a full-service repair shop for all computer makes and models.

With that much new equipment and upgrades being sold and serviced, Davidson says his team of sales people and technicians work hard to stay on top of the rapid-fire changes happening in the computer industry today.

"There are a lot of new products today. We always try to stay up with the really fast-moving, accelerated pace of the industry to provide our customers with good advice and good service."
