You probably already know this, but STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. And you've probably also heard that careers in STEM provide some of the most lucrative opportunities in the state of Alaska. But did you know that by 2029, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that there will be 797,800 new STEM jobs in the United States? This is a projected growth rate of 8 percent, compared to the non-STEM occupation growth rate of 3.4 percent.

At its core, the aim of STEM education is to develop the next wave of problem solvers and critical thinkers. These are the engineers, the architects, and other lovers of mathematics that ensure Alaska's bridges are sturdy--and our economy sturdier.
