In 2007, the price of a barrel of ANS crude has increased by 72 percent, from $51.52 in January to $88.64 in December, in nominal dollars. However, in January 2005, just over three years ago, the ANS spot price was $41.13. The price of ANS crude oil has increased by 115 percent, which is good news for the State of Alaska, since production of oil has decreased over the same period. At the time of press, oil hit $100 a barrel or greater twice so far this year.
