The total value of Alaska's exports had surged by 13 percent in the first half of 2003, compared to a 1 percent decline for the same period last year, according to figures released by the governor's office.

"Double-digit export growth is an amazing accomplishment for any economy in the world, and is especially gratifying for a Pacific Rim state like Alaska," Gov. Frank Murkowski said.
