Mikunda, Cottrell & Co., headquartered in Anchorage, announced recently it will reorganize its operations by adding two different and distinct entities to better serve the needs of clients and satisfy new federal rules affecting the accounting industry nationwide.

Mikunda, Cottrell & Co. serves more than 3,000 businesses, Alaska Native organizations, government entities and individuals across Alaska, and employs more than 80 professionals and support staff located in Anchorage, Kenai, Bethel and Seward. The firm started in 1977 and has experienced substantial growth in the last five years.

Managing Partner David Cottrell described the changes as a "win-win" for the firm and its clients. He said the decision to restructure was driven by recent changes in federal accounting rules that require accounting firms to separate their audit and business consulting functions so that no conflicts of interest exist in the advice they provide clients.
