Air France has begun selling seats on its nonstop flights between Los Angeles and London Heathrow, which begin March 30. Here's a sampling of other routes that open skies will bring us in 2008. U.S. airlines were quick to jump at the opportunity to fly in and out of Heathrow, a major gateway to European cities both large and small, as the open-skies agreement calls for such airlines as British Airways and American Airlines to loosen their grips on their protected positions at the airport. Bmi has today January 3 announced that from the start of the summer schedule on 30 March the daily service from Heathrow to Inverness will be cancelled and flights between Heathrow and Leeds Bradford will reduce to four-times daily with the suspension of the late evening flight. The summer-only services to Alicante and Nice will not operate in 2008. Despite these cuts, bmi has doubled the number of services between Heathrow and Moscow Domodedovo from 30 March and the new timetable will also see additional flights between Heathrow and both Manchester and Durham Tees Valley. New UK cabin bag rules. Bmi is to introduce new cabin baggage rules from next Monday Jan 7, as restrictions are lifted at certain UK airports. The one-bag rule has infuriated business travelers for some time, with laptops in particular providing a specific source of frustration, but this new regulatory environment should ease the situation. British Airways and Virgin Atlantic Airways both have expressed interest in establishing their own transatlantic all-premium operations.
