IATA chief sees technology as solution to security hassles. Technology will one day eliminate many airport security hassles and return some of the joy of flying, predicts Giovanni Bisignani, head of the International Air Transport Association. Bisignani sees a day when biometric data will be collected effortlessly from passengers as they pass through "hassle-free tunnels of technology," allowing officials to focus their attention on high-risk individuals. TSA proposes 100% screening of air cargo by end of 2011 The Transportation Security Administration has proposed moving its goal of screening 100% of air cargo to Dec. 31, 2011. Airlines will have up to 45 days to comment on the proposal before it is finalized by the TSA. Previously, officials thought 100% screening could not be achieved until 2013. Jan 18, 2011
From lavatories to lie-flat beds, luxury is making a comeback. International carriers are rushing to upgrade their wide-body aircraft in an effort to appeal to high-margin business travelers. Bone china, fine wines and celebrity chefs offer mealtime cachet, while in-flight amenity kits might bear such famous names as Porsche Design or Viktor & Rolf.
