Freight forwarders say they are ready for cargo screening deadline.
TSA officials in Los Angeles showed off a $200,000 X-ray machine on Thursday, demonstrating how the cargo industry is mobilizing to meet an Aug. 1 deadline for screening 100% of shipments aboard commercial aircraft. Thursday's demonstration took place at an independent cargo screening warehouse near LAX -- one of 810 such facilities certified by the TSA to help airlines meet the screening requirement. U.S. DOT finalizes Tokyo route approvals. The Transportation Department on Tuesday confirmed a tentative decision awarding three U.S. carriers with routes to Tokyo's close-in Haneda Airport, a favorite with business travelers. Delta Air Lines will get two flights a day, while American Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines each will get one. The new flights are expected to begin in October. Jul 7, 2010
Air China Air China said itOs working on more than 100 service improvements as it competes with Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. and Delta Air Lines Inc. on overseas routes. Targets include onboard catering, seat comfort, inflight entertainment, call-centre operations, maintenance and cleaning. The airline is also deploying a mobile-phone text messaging system, he said. Alaska Airlines, Boeing, Aircell Alaska Airlines is now offering Aircell's Gogo Inflight Internet service on more than half its aircraft, including all 55 of its Boeing 737-800s and 10 of its 737-900s. The service will be available on the airline's remaining two 737-900s by the end of July. These aircraft fly throughout Alaska's network, including all transcontinental routes. The airline's remaining 737-400s and 737-700s will be equipped with the Gogo service by the end of 2010. To ensure the service is available to the airline's namesake state, Aircell will expand its network by early 2011 to provide Gogo Inflight Internet service on key routes to, from and within the state of Alaska.
