Al-Qaida focused on finding airline security gaps. According to a Feb. 12 CBS News report, international terrorists are focused on finding ways to circumvent airline security measures. Armen Keteyian, CBS News chief investigative correspondent, reports that U.S. intelligence officials have reportedly seen increased Internet "chatter" involving al-Qaida operatives in Yemen concerned with security gaps in explosive detection devices, 3-D scanners and the TSA rules for searching passengers. Air France, Airbus

Air France yesterday operated its first A380 flight from Paris Charles de Gaulle to Johannesburg, becoming the first airline to fly the aircraft to Africa. The 538-seat aircraft will operate three of AF's 10 weekly flights between the airports to March 28, at which point the route's overall frequency will fall to daily. When AF's third A380 enters service in April, CDG-JNB will be operated exclusively by the type. Its other A380 flies to New York JFK, and Tokyo Narita is scheduled to come online this year. Ethiopian Airlines, Boeing

Search teams have recovered the chassis of the cockpit voice recorder of the Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737-800 that crashed off the coast of Lebanon on 25 January killing all 90 on board, but are still looking for its memory unit and locator beacon. The flight data recorder was recovered and sent to French investigation agency BEA for examination. Ethiopian says nothing - including sabotage - can be ruled out as a possible cause of the accident. India's Jet Airways plans to start a daily service between Mumbai and Johannesburg from 14 April. It will operate the service on Airbus A330-200 aircraft, says the carrier. Johannesburg is its first African destination, it adds. Feb 17, 2010
