British Airways

A London-bound British Airways flight was delayed after a complaint from a female passenger about poor security at Abu Dhabi airport. All passengers and crew aboard the flight were made to disembark the aircraft and pass through security for a second time. According to reports, the plane was also searched after a passenger had told the captain that she was unhappy with the level of security surrounding the airfield. www.ba.com 1/4/2010

Emirates Airlines

Middle Eastern carrier Emirates is to open services to the Spanish capital, Madrid, from 1 August this year. The airline will operate daily non-stop to Madrid from Dubai. Emirates will use Airbus A330-200 aircraft on the route, configured with 12 first-class, 42 business-class and 183 economy-class seats. Madrid will bring to 25 the number of Emirates destinations in Europe, says the carrier. Emirates' freight division, SkyCargo, already serves the Spanish city of Zaragoza twice-weekly with Boeing 747 aircraft. 1/5/2010

Emirates will operate the A380 to Saudi Arabia when it launches a four-times-weekly Dubai-Jeddah service on Feb. 1. The aircraft will seat 14 in first class, 76 in business and 427 in economy. Jeddah will be Emirates's eighth A380 destination. It began flying the aircraft to Paris Charles de Gaulle on Dec. 29. It currently operates the Jeddah route daily. 1/5/2010
