El Al Israel Airlines

El Al Israel Airlines will be prevented from adding service to the U.S. following the FAA's decision to downgrade Israel's aviation safety status to Category 2, joining countries such as Bangladesh, Serbia and Zimbabwe. The FAA did not offer detailed reasons for the downgrade, but said it was not security related. Dec 22, 2008

Emirates Airlines, AeroMobile

AeroMobile, provider of in-flight mobile phone services, announced December 16 that the 50,000th passenger has used its system on an Emirates flight. The call took place on an Emirates service from Dubai to Cairo - flight number EK923 - last Wednesday, December 10, at 12.39pm GMT. The passenger, an Etisalat subscriber, connected to the network on his personal mobile phone to make a three minute call from 36,000 feet aboard the Emirates Boeing 777-300. The milestone was passed in the ninth month of service with Emirates Airline, which now operates the system on five different aircraft types. AeroMobile remains the only operator of its kind in full commercial service. Dec 22, 2008

Etihad Airways

Etihad Airways is planning a significant upgrade in its first class seating in 2009, with a new suite-style product promised, as well as a refreshed business class seat, and a focus on service in economy. Etihad Airways is planning a new first class suite on its long haul fleet. Etihad's executive vice-president of marketing Peter Baumgartner said that the new first class seats would offer "privacy on demand" with a "single seat cabin" as well as the option of a double cabin suite. In addition the cabin is to be altered and refreshed. In addition Etihad is planning to upgrade the business class seats, although these changes are believed to be more of a refreshing of the fully flat bed seat introduced in 2006, with a larger table, wider armrests, more storage space, increased privacy for the middle seats in the business class cabin, moving the TV screen closer to the passenger and an enhanced inflight Entertainment throughout the...
