Africa Flights in the Horn of Africa region are being disrupted as airlines and meteorologists throughout the Middle East monitor an ash cloud resulting from the eruption of a volcano in Eritrea. The eruption of the Nabro volcano was triggered on 12 June following a series of earthquakes at the northeastern end of the East African Rift Valley. An ash plume up to 8.4mi (13.5km) high has been moving steadily northwest across Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt but is now caught in a westerly jetstream and is curving back eastwards. Jun 14, 2011

Boeing, TAAG Boeing Delivers First 777-300ER to TAAG. Boeing today delivered the first 777-300ER (extended range) to Angola flag carrier TAAG Linhas Aereas de Angola (Angola Airlines). The airplane is the first purchased, owned and operated by an African carrier. Today's delivery is the first of two airplanes ordered by TAAG in October 2009. TAAG will use the airplanes for route expansion to destinations including direct routes to Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Lisbon and Oporto. The airline is also preparing its application to fly into the United States with its new 777-300ERs. TAAG currently flies 777-200ERs from Luanda, Angola to Lisbon seven times weekly, to Beijing once a week, to Dubai twice weekly, to Sao Paulo four times a week and to Rio de Janeiro three times weekly. Delta Air Lines, Air Nigeria Delta Air Lines has begun codesharing with Air Nigeria. Air Nigeria is now placing its code on Delta-operated services between Atlanta and Lagos. On July 4, it will put its code on Delta-operated services between JFK and Abuja, Nigeria. Delta is the only airline to fly direct from the U.S. to two Nigerian cities, Lagos and Abuja, offering nine weekly flights.
