New York (AirGuide - Inside Air Travel) We asked our panel of globetrotting experts, Brian Major, James Ruggia and David Cogswell, for their take on which destinations did it right in 2014. South Africa South African Tourism is a model destination marketing organization. The agency has done a brilliant job of bringing South Africa out of the dark age of Apartheid only 20 years ago to today, when it is widely proclaimed to be one of the greatest travel destinations in the world. In those 20 years, SAT has continued its patient, methodical, creative and soulful efforts to bring the splendors of South Africa to the attention of the rest of the world. It was always a beautiful country, and SAT had great material to work with. But that alone does not explain its success. In the U.S. in 2014 SAT continued its cooperative promotional efforts with the U.S. Tour Operators Association to continue to bring colorful and inspiring images of South Africa to the world. It continued its promotional efforts to get media into the country to tell its stories to the rest of the world. It has adapted its major travel trade show Indaba, changing it with the times as South Africa becomes more in demand.
