AFL awards $55K to 9 Upstate organizations.

Spartanburg-based manufacturer AFL has given $55,000 in community outreach STEM grants to nine organizations in the Upstate as part of its Community Outreach Program. The grants will support initiatives that focus on science, technology, engineering and math education, and health and human services, according to a news release.

Grants were presented to the following organizations:

BirthMatters of Spartanburg in support of its Improving Birth Outcomes program, which trains women from low-income neighborhoods to become community-based doulas;

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Upstate to provide technology tools that will enhance programming in math and science for students in grades 1-5 in seven high-poverty Spartanburg County elementary schools;

Fostering Great Ideas to aid in the Our Common Loss program to aid in retention and care of current foster families;

Just Say Something for its Strengthening Families Program, an evidence-based family skills training program for children...
