AETNA'S BOOSTER SHOT.

PositionSTATEWIDE: Triad

Health insurer Aetna is investing $2.5 million to improve and expand its High Point facilities and plans to add 300 jobs by the end of 2020. The upgraded space will add 16,000 square feet to the 126,000-squarefoot facility.

The new jobs, which Gov. Roy Cooper calls "good paying" and "above the median average," will include clinical-care management and customer-service positions in Aetna's benefits administration technology and services businesses. The current median annual salary for the Greensboro-High Point metropolitan area is $43,310, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Aetna, which employs 9,000 in North Carolina, including 1,230 in High Point, will not receive any local or state economic incentives for the latest expansion. The company added 80 jobs in High Point in 2018.

Aetna was acquired in November by Woonsocket, R.I.-based CVS Health for $69 billion. It's the third-largest U.S. health insurer, with about 22 million members.
