Private space travel will continue to make progress in 2013 as three major companies are likely to bid for NASA contracts, this feature says. Space Exploration Technologies has scheduled a cargo flight for its Dragon capsule to the International Space Station in May. Boeing and Sierra Nevada Corp. are also designing space capsules. Students at David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy in Lafayette, La., elect to follow career pathways in fields such as engineering and biomedicine. "We really focus on high-wage, high-skill careers," principal Jeff Debetaz said. "Students do have to choose a pathway, but there is a certain point before they get to some of the more focused courses where they can switch. NASA NASA is considering plan to fix asteroid in lunar orbit and study it. According to researchers with the Keck Institute for Space Studies in California, NASA is considering a $2.6 billion mission to build a robotic spacecraft to capture a small asteroid and place it in a lunar orbit to study it. The project could possibly lead to developing asteroid material for spaceship fuels or construction, making the project a steppingstone to sending humans to Mars, this feature says. Feb 2, 2013
NASA NASA scope finds planets that could support life. NASA has located 461 possible new exoplanets, and four of the alien worlds could possibly support life, the space agency says. The Kepler telescope found the planets, some of which orbit at a distance from their stars that could make surface water possible.
