Iraq aims to buy U.S. fighter jets, air-defense systems The U.S. government is hoping it can cement ties with Iraq's government through the sale of billions of dollars worth of fighter jets and air-defense systems to Baghdad. Iraq had previously planned to purchase 18 F-16 fighters, but put those plans on hold because of political unrest in the Middle East.
