U.S. to sell up to 20 F-35s to Israel The U.S. decided to sell Israel F-35 Joint Strike Fighter jets that could be delivered in late 2016. Israel plans to outfit the stealth jets with Israeli electronic warfare equipment. The $2.7 billion contract, which includes up to 20 F-35s, is expected to be signed in early 2012. "Israel could still be the first international customer to receive the JSF," said Tom Burbage, Lockheed Martin's general manager of the F-35 program. Jul 7, 2011

Pentagon seeks Congress' permission to move $5 billion The Pentagon asked Congress for permission to shift $5 billion to replace money spent during Operation Odyssey Dawn, the military operation in Libya before NATO assumed control. Some military officials say the money to replace bombs used in the mission is not needed. "The Tomahawks that were shot, those are part of our current inventory," said Adm. Gary Roughead, chief of naval operations. "There are ample replacements for those in the inventory, more than ample replacements for those." Jul 7, 2011
